Design| Gucci Debuts Top-Tier Italian Craftsmanship at Milan Design Week


Milan Design Week is underway and the best in decor and lifestyle design are debuting their most recent works and sharing the seasonal designs with the design world. One of the more renowned manufacturers of home decor is Gucci with their detailed project dubbed Gucci Design Ancora, created by creative director Sabato De Sarno and co-creator Michela Pelizzari.

Hosted at Gucci’s flagship location, Monte Napoleone in Milan, the universal brand unveiled five design pieces that adds to the brands Italian craftsmanship collection. The short series of re-edited and customized pieces were a part of a larger display by Spanish architect Guillermo Santomà. The pieces added in the exhibition included Gucci’s the “Storet” by Nanda Vigo for Acerbis (1994, reedition 2020), the “Clessidra rug” — Portaluppi Pattern Project by Nicolò Castellini Baldissera (great grandson of Piero Portaluppi) from an iconic design of Piero Portaluppi, edited by cc-tapis (2024), “Parola” by Gae Aulenti and Piero Castiglioni for FontanaArte (1980), “Le Mura” by Mario Bellini for Tacchini (1972, reedition 2022) and “Opachi‘ by Tobia Scarpa for Venini (1960, reedition 2021). 

Through Design Ancora, Gucci doesn’t simply celebrate old icons, it creates new ones. he aura emanating from the brand spotlights five pieces by Italian masters that are perfect from a design standpoint but less known to the general public.”

Michela Pelizzari explained

The selection debuted this week are significant as they are representation of an era in Italian decor design. Further detailing an illustrious history is that each piece is adorned in a Rosso Ancora, red hue that was chosen by De Sarno to mark the beginning of Gucci’s new creative chapter. The neon-green backdrop was also a design choice by Sabto De Sarno, to showcase in the flagship location with the suggested curved walls and squared architectural ways.
