Independent film studio A24 brings a sense of cinematic aesthetic and decor to the West Village with their newly renovated and recently opened restaurant dubbed ‘Wild Cherry‘. The film powerhouse brilliantly pairs an intimate dining experience with the legendary cultural landmark of the Cherry Lane Theatre. A24’S has been making their mark on the West Village since acquiring the century-old Off-Broadway venue in 2023, with full intentions of merging cinema with cuisine.
The decor and design aesthetic simply mimics the renowned nod from A24 of sense of nostalgia while sprinkling in timeless-charm and glamour. The vision came together by creative designer Zeb Stewart, who dreamed up the 45-seated dining room which features deep green banquettes, limewashed walls and a slatted ceiling adorning patrons in a moody glow. Adding to the nostalgia are chequerboard floors and funfair-style bulbs delivering that retro dining experience. A very film-esque touch to the restaurant is the 12-seat horseshoe bar at the heart of the venue. The combination of decor and seating arrangement provides a layered experience that offers that cinematic touch with an intimate feeling.
The menu adds to the cinematic flare as it is fueled by raw delicacies and hearty classics. The menu starts patrons off with items like raw oysters, tuna crudo or whole dressed crab and slowly ventures into more fulfilling items like a lobster club, roasted monkfish kebab, or a cheeseburger. Premium full meal items that are highlighted include a steak for two, served with baked potato, green salad, and a swirl of soft-serve. The drink menu ranges from classic cocktails to natural wines and features theatre style features like the Scorpion Bowl (served in vintage Murano glass, adding a theatrical flourish). The restaurant is operated by chefs Lee Hanson and Riad Nasr, the team behind Frenchette, Le Rock and Le Veau d’Or.
