With so much going on this year at Art Basel 2024 in Basel, the art enthusiasts event is named one of the largest art events around the globe. Adding to the renowned history, for the 2024 event, With what concluded on Sunday, June 16th, Art Basel featured over 285 galleries from 40 countries and territories. The show pulled in over 91,000 visitors who got the chance to see nearly 22 first time artists unveil their collections.

For this year’s art extravaganza took over the Messe Basel from June 13th to 16th by featuring unique galleries like their around-the-clock artistic events and performances at the Merian. A part of celebrating 30-years of the art activation, the partnership with UBS artist Petrit Halilaj comes to life by activating the facade of the Merian with the feature dubbed ‘when the sun goes away we paint the sky’ which will be featured until January 2025. Adding to the full experience were the Parcours, which was Art Basel’s sector for site-specific installations, sculptures and more curated for the first time by Stefanie Hessler.

The 30th anniversary brought a lot of first time experiences to Basel such as the newly announced The Art Basel Shop which featured some exclusive, rare and limited edition collectibles across art, fashion and design all curated by Sarah Alderman. Furthermore, Art Basel unveiled AB, the fashion concept by Art Basel debuting a unique range of apparel and accessories steeped in the rich and vibrant nature of the festival.

The ART

At Art Basel in Basel 2024, by teaming with Unlimited, the festival maintained it’s expected list of extravagant sector of large-scale projects, monumental installations. massive sculptures, cohesive photo-series, expansive video projections and much more. With over 70 curated projects, big name contributors such as Giovanni Carmine, Lu Yang, Keith Haring, Anna Uddenberg and Robert Frank debuted outstanding installations. For Unlimited Night, visitors got the chance to see the project on an after hour schedule and also, for the first time, attendees were allowed to vote. Unlimited presented ‘Unlimited People’s Pick‘, which was officially awarded to Francisco Sierra.

For Art Basel’s illustrious series dubbed the Parcours, this year’s renewed rendition unveiled across empty storefronts, a hotel, operational shops, and a series of urban spaces. Taking place from Basel’s Clarastrasse up to the Middle Bridge, which connects the fairgrounds to the Rhine. This sector explored many new ideas of transformation and circulation nestled in the world of trade and globalization. On June 12th, Art Basel celebrated with Parcours Night which was a festive evening of performances and other art acts.

The last leading sector of the festival was Art Basel’s Conversations and Film program, which was co-curated by Kimberly Bradley and Filipa Ramos for the very first time. This sector offered attendees a unique chance to participate in thought provoking discussions while also experience a neat collection of moving image works.
