As New York City held a five-borough wide celebration over the last few weeks as the Knicks pressed on to become NBA Champions. With it, one of the most historic moments took place last Thursday as the official NBA Champions returned home to the infamous Championship Parade. What appeared as the entire city took PTO (personal time off) to come out to midtown Manhattan to watch their Knicks championship roster brilliantly tout the NBA trophy around town, while photographer LaLea Raymond captured this special day.
The New Jersey based photographer and visual director, headed out to the flooded streets to take in the energy, capture the moment and immortalize this championship parade as one of the largest NYC celebrations in history. With what was recorded as over 2 million pedestrians covered Broadway from Battery Park up to City Hall. LaLea bravely took to the city, with a very early morning call which required visitors to be in the city before 9AM, and weathered the human chaos that was the New York Knicks parade. Fans clung to every piece of steel framework, tree-top and car roofs to catch a glimpse of the celebrity adorned floats that carried the team from lower Manhattan towards Times Square.
LaLea is a master at live photography as she captured signature moments such as Knicks Center Karl Anthony Towns, hoisting the NBA championship trophy or a dump-truck covered in fans dressed in blue and orange. Celebrities such as Jalen Brunson, Tracy Morgan, Ja Rule, Mary J. Bridge and many others are captured. The brilliance that Lea brings to photography is due to the ability to catch people in joyous moments without missing a beat. The fandom was surreal as Lea brings to life the many unique NY based individuals who took this victory to heart, From kids skipping their graduations to city workers in uniform, joining the crowd in celebration, the love of New York was evident through the range of images.
