Accessories| Jacques Marie Mage Highlights Muhammad Ali With New Series

Los Angeles based and Japan crafted, Jacques Marie Mage is a specialized luxury good brand that delivers rich tapestry steeped in culture and golden eras in history. Their latest celebration line is dedicated to the boxing icon Muhammad Ali with a short series of two signature silhouettes from the brands collection.

Dubbed ‘Muhammad Ali by JMM‘, the limited edition series utilize two signature styles which are the Kinshasa & the Louisville, which both pays homage to historic moments in the Muhammad Ali story. The renowned boxer is a symbol of charisma, conviction and cultural impact and often was one of the more stylish athletic figures in his era. The series, which was crafted in Japan, boosts two limited-edition collectible eye-wear designs that the iconic athlete wore at pivotal moments in his journey. Ali touted himself as “The Greatest” and at the right moments during civil unrest and did so in one fashionable manner and JMM is brilliantly paying homage.

The short series highlights the Kinshasa & the Louisville silhouettes that are offered in a series of colorways. Limited to a batch of just 65 pieces, the Kinshasa design is offered in 6 colorways from dark hues like “Jet”, a black and burgundy outlined choice to “Sulfur”, a translucent option. This coolly constructed choice is handcrafted in Japan with a circular lens shape and medium fit, featuring our signature arrowhead front pins, custom wirecores with hairline-engraved Art Deco details, 7-barrel block hinges, and double-arrowhead temple rivets. A commanding silhouette for moments of composure and clarity, these limited-edition spectacles are named for the capital of Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo), where Muhammad Ali fought in the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle.” Inspired by the glasses Muhammad wore during a 1968 press conference at UCLA, where he spoke with calm authority about the cultural climate of America, a moment of profound gravitas mirrored in the evocative presence of this masterfully crafted collectible.

The Louisville silhouette, limited to just 50 pieces, is a sleek and worldly spectacle with a soft wraparound effect that also was crafted in Japan, the design is a rectangular lens shape and wide fit, featuring custom wirecores with hairline-engraved Art Deco details, 7-barrel block hinges, and double-arrowhead temple rivets. A bold expression named for the city where Muhammad Ali was born and raised, these limited-edition spectacles are inspired by the glasses Muhammad wore outside the Federal Court in Houston, Texas on April 27, 1967, and serve as as a tribute to a man who stood alone with courage and grace, offering a distinct composition rendered with the elegance and weight of moral clarity. Limited-edition spectacles are received in a signature monograph box set in black faux leather, which includes one of two custom eyewear cases handcrafted in Italy—our signature envelope case for the Kinshasa, or our monolith case for the Louisville—as well as an oversized cleaning cloth featuring a photographic print of Muhammad Ali during “The Thrilla in Manila,” and a letterpress authenticity card featuring collection notes and craftsman’s signature.

Both, the Kinshasa and the Louisville of the Muhammad Ali by JMM are both now available via the brands webstore. Both pairs are offered with a price tag of $1,050 USD and shipped in their specialized packaging.
