Art| A Recap of Our Visit To CJ Hendry’s “Pastel” Preview with Salon 94

At the beginning of the August, renowned artist and designer Cj Hendry returned to NYC for yet another unforgettable exhibition preview ahead of the opening of her latest solo exhibition dubbed “Pastel“. With a special invitation, we had the honor to visit the now publicly open exhibit and explore the two-story playful display fueled by custom designed charms that were turned into bracelets and necklaces alongside signature designs that covered a high ceiling room wall from top to bottom.

Cj has been on a rigorous release schedule that consist of several previous debuts such as her JuJu plushies, her signature plush boutiques and many other hand drawn art releases. For this most recent release, Cj brilliantly crafted a playful approach to an intriguing interactive experience for her fans and art patrons. At the infamous gallery, Salon 94 which houses the exhibit until August 16th, allowed us to enter in where we are welcomed by a large teal pool filled with Cj’s charms that matched the prints placed on the walls. As you enter, you are handed a sky blue sewn basket that is filled with a small bucket, several laced strings, a map that details all the charms in the pool and custom ‘Pastel’ branded socks. The room was full of laughter, smiles and mostly adults who playful climbed in the pool with their custom socks as they began to scavenger hunt for the many pieces that were listed. Unicorns, pills, dollars signs, jewels, hearts, JuJu dolls and many other designed were turned into minature sized charms that were perfect for the light blue, pink and teal laced strings that were then turned into fun-loving jewelry. The bucket was added for collectors who wanted to gather a bucket full of charms instead of just settling for a necklace or bracelet.

Before heading to the second floor, guest were lead to a gift-shop themed section which offered custom T-shirts that hosted an embroidered Pastel petal on the left chest alongside “Pastel” caps and of course buckets full of charms for patrons to purchase. After that, an off-white marble spiral staircase with a two-story chandelier led guest up to the massive high-ceiling room that houses a wall of art pieces from top to bottom. Perfectly placed, many different color-infused print outs of each charm was framed and placed to cover the entirety of the left wall. In the center of the room are large porcelain pieces from the charm collection such as a yellow dollar sign, pink unicorn, green smiley pill and a Pastel inflatable that is renowned to Cj’s collection. This was a social sanctuary within the exhibit as many gathered here to discuss their love and appreciation of the full presentation.

The “Pastel” exhibition by Cj Hendry is still open until August 16th and is located at Salon 94 in New York City. You can learn more about times to visit via Salon 94’s website.
