For the first time, Lexus is giving the world a chance to purchase their renowned 68-foot luxury yacht. The Japanese domestic market has maintained the market control for this series but starting in September, the Lexus LY 680 will be for sale internationally.
Expected to make it’s first major international public appearance in October, the LY 680 is expected to debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. This gesture suggests the brand is placing the boat in heavy marine based areas to capture market share. The Lexus LY 680 delivers a great collection of physical features and amenities that help it stand out. The boat’s massive frame measures at 67.7 feet long and stretches 18.9 feet wide, demanding space in the waters. The exterior is as luxurious as the interior as the architectural intentions are set to ‘luxury leisure’. The LY 680 gains an additional 4.6 feet to the upper fly-bridge which makes space for a lounge sofa and a barbecue grill.
The interior gains subtle features additions as well such as the three distinct cabins crafted to accommodate six guests, while the entire vessel is suited to hold 15 passengers. Guiding that weight requires heavy duty marine engineering, and is boosted by a pair of Volvo Penta IPS engines. Buyers are offered the boat with two power choices of either IPS 1350 or IPS 1050 units. The variations produce unique performance differences and of course horsepower allowance. The Volvo Penta IPS 1050 configuration delivers 800 hp per engine for a combined output of 1,600 hp. The Volvo Penta IPS 1350 engines produce 1,000 hp each, pushing the vessel to a combined 2,000 hp.
Pricing has not been officially disclosed for the overseas market expansion, but the flagship yacht reportedly carries a price tag of around $5 million USD.
