Li Hongbo is proclaimed the Paper Master due to how he stretches the imagination with a twisted take on traditional sculpture. Li Hongbo gives a visual treat in the film “Statues in Motion“, by recreating series of known porcelain masterpieces and structuring them with thousands of layers of paper. His techniques are due to a fascination to a Chinese traditional decoration form called paper gourds. These are simple glued layers of paper, and Li takes this concepts and constructs remarkable flexible structures. Kid Guy Collective, a New York based film and video production group, captures the artist’s work in 240 frames per second giving an amazing look to even the slightest detail. For an up close and personal view Hongbo‘s work will reside at Klein Sun Gallery in New York until March 22nd.
