Within days from his latest Drake diss release, Kendrick Lamar returns with a follow-up diss track dubbed ‘6:16 In LA’, mimicking the time and location tags that Aubrey has become renowned for.
The sample heavy record, produced by Sounwave & Jack Antonoff – which plays more into the beef, seeing as Drake touts Taylor Swift’s name around a lot and these two producers are known producers for Taylor- Kendrick delivers yet again some revealing bars in this diss. Aiding the theory that he was on the clock to respond; Kendrick isn’t allowing Drake a second with a Back 2 Back diss track release performance. ‘6:16 in LA’ is a much shorter record but holds a classical sentiment similar to the introduction of “Euphoria’.
On this diss choice, K.Dot decides to lean more into the hypothetical existence of the OVO crew and their true feelings for their lyrical leader. Bars like “Have you ever thought OVO is working for me?” further dives into some suggestive ideas but he continues to deliver this style of bars. Approximately at one minute and forty-six seconds (1:46) in the song, the mood turns, and Kendrick head hunts the entire OVO team and even points at social platofrm sources that associate with Drake like DJ Akademiks. “Yeah somebody’s lyin, I could see the vibes on Ak, Even he lookin’ compromised, let’s peel the layers back” alludes to some suspicions in the steady crew and alliances. Kendrick continues with bars like “You must be a terrible person, Everyone in your team is whispering he deserves it”.
Additional supporters of Drake are also caught in the crossfires from Drake’s right-hand Chubbs to DJ friend Zack Bia. The short but pungent track is yet another example of Kendricks willingness to get active in a Rap Battle and this one is for the ages. Now we wait to see what Toronto’s own responds with.
