Kyoto, Japan has honorably served at the centerpiece of Japanese culture for the last few centuries and maintains that title. As an architectural powerhouse, Kyoto has experience millions of tourist who descend to Japan to view their design and structures. Tailoring the historic notes with modern expression is a new teahouse dubbed Ogata at The Shinmonzen.
Perfectly nestled in a boutique hotel is the genius design by master architect Tadao Ando and founded by Shinichiro Ogata. Ogota’s minimalistic aesthetic is ideal for this flagship location. The design places a unique emphasis on the organic relationship between natural and manmade materials, accentuated by swaths of natural light to emit an ethereal and contemplative atmosphere throughout. In an interview with Wallpaper, Ogota stated:
I created ten blends in pursuit of the possibilities of Japanese tea for people around the world to enjoy in their daily lives, … The blends not only reveal the myriad flavors of Japanese tea, but each was created with intention and a proposal of how to enjoy them. There are more invigorating blends to start the day, others I recommend to pair with meals, and even a tea to calm the mind in the evening.
