Art | An In-Depth Look At Cj Hendry’s ‘Flower Market’ Featuring Sightings of Martha Stewart & Many More

Over the weekend, designer and artists Cj Hendry was thrilled to introduce her most recent passion project in partnership with global luxury beauty brand  Clé de Peau Beauté and  Four Freedoms Park Conservancy. The grandiose multi-faceted artist brilliantly debuted Flower Market, a plush floral exhibition housed at a 20-foot by 40-foot greenhouse built on the lawn of the FDR Four Freedoms State Park on Roosevelt Island.

The Flower Market, a greenhouse that was transformed into a botanical wonderland filled with plush flowers for your picking as the interior walls were adorned with 12 hand drawn replications of selected flowers. There were 100,000 meticulously placed plush flowers that were inspired by the natural radiance and botanicals used in Clé de Peau Beauté products. Cj highlighted the Radiant Lily as a significant ingredient in her project but also in Clé de Peau Beauté’s The Serum, an iconic skincare product beloved by Cj.

Doors opened to the Greenhouse on Friday where patrons browsed through the field of flowers while embracing and engaging within the delicate decor. The Flower Market was tucked under a flush white and cream colored tent that during the height of the day, ides exposing the floral displays from a distance. Lanes were made by utilizing the plush flower bins as separators creating a walkway for visitors. Natural lighting played brilliantly in this space, which allowed for optimal viewership and apprecaition.

Fashion-forward New Yorkers and art enthusiast perused around the greenhouse in awe and amazement at the detail and designs but some were also in shock of the Martha Stewart sighting. What seems to be a budding friendship between CJ and Martha, the duo also appear to have a organic appreciation for art and botany. Adding to the audience were several well dressed participants who enjoyed the beautiful weather. The curators were overwhelmed with love and support while attendees purchased merch, t-shirts, and of course flowers in set of bouquets. Cj and other organizers from Clé de Peau Beauté &  Four Freedoms Park Conservancy delivered heartfelt sentiments from the overall experience:

When the architect Louis Kahn designed this memorial, he said, ‘The garden is somehow a personal kind of control of nature.’ A lot of my work, and in this exhibition especially, is about manipulating my environments and building a space that takes participants out of their ordinary. I hope Flower Market inspires joy and beauty well after the greenhouse is empty, every time we see flowers – plush or otherwise.
