Design| A Look At The Home In Rua Polônia Is A Subtle Sanctuary

Brilliant architects Gabriel Kogan and Guilherme Pianca tag team a tranquil residential project serving as an urban sanctuary all conveniently surrounded by the city center of São Paulo’s Rua Polônia. The landscape greets visitors first before you get a view of the quant quarters slightly placed to the left. This intentional choice highlights the initial view of the house and the spatial perception offered.

The house sits at 977 square meters that unfolds upon entry with it’s frame-style viewing focuses on depth and frontality. Brilliantly, the architectural intent adopted the modular system with the modules are repeated in the two-story concrete façade, producing a pattern like structure mimicking an infinite grid. The ambiance offers sentiments to a Caribbean sensibility while maintaining the needed notes of minimalism.

Wooden panels lead the charge in the interior as it played dual roles of functionality and aesthetic but strayed away from trends. The wooden theme lived on features like doors and bookshelves all while the floors are adorned in cementitious material. Adding to the deepth and design are the full length windows providing ample natural lighting.

One notable design premise is the uniform wooden ceiling in the living room, free from visual distractions such as perforations or fixtures. This approach fosters a unique atmosphere with indirect, reflected lighting that is both pleasant and cozy.. This home elevates the connection between interior and exterior by lowering the living room floor, offering garden views from ground level. The result is a cohesive and thoughtfully designed spatial experience that balances openness with structure.
