“Roselle, USA” is the calling-card for the Roselle, New Jersey rapper notably known as Cruch Calhoun, who has been a consistent voice for Jersey, along with all things growth through trail into triumph. Cruch took over the café & lounge Blueprint Café in Newark, New Jersey to celebrate his most recent album release “Calhoun” produced by Mike & Keys and “It’s a Marathon” is the mantra, as we talk outside the venue.
As you walk in the wood floor, high ceiling warehouse styled venue, the family friendly crowd rhythmically vibed to the sounds of OG Roddy, who brilliantly sprinkles in singles from the new album according to their tempo and instrumentation. Cruch sat and we discussed more about the album and his collaboration with infamous production duo Mike & Keys. Naturally being influenced by the late Nipsey Hussle, Cruch dreamed of working with Mike & Keys on a project and this was the perfect opportunity for everyone. From beginning to end, you can see this fusion of talent was meant to bring a masterful experience to listeners.
The leading single “Breaking News” would give any M&K fan a heads up that something clever was on the way but listening to the full project, you may be surprised the way the West Coast influenced production is so well handled by an East Coast talent. Flawlessly picked, song after song appear as a perfect match for Cruch’s raspy riddle play. The lightly featured album is thoughtfully tracklisted, as it allows Cruch’s voice to maintain control but gives way to some outstanding guest like Dave East, Tahj, PiiF Jones and LBS x Jupiter. Only 10 records but about 30 minutes of listening time, the collective of songs definitely delivers an array of vibes while maintaining the essence of what Cruch is known to deliver, Roselle in a raw form.
Songs like “YOU, ME, WE” which features Tahj, showcases the range reviewed when making this project. Then the next single “FRONTLINE” featuring Lbs. & Jupitar, gives the lyrical space for Cruch to start storytelling while steeped in Caribbean energy. “POST & DELIVER” is just Cruch but is the best choice to end the run of what we noticed in this project, great sequencing and formidable flow-artistry. The full project is worth it’s waiting in writing and production and gives those needed samples from films, memorable moments and of course Nipsey.
Cruch also informed that he will be away playing his part for the upcoming “From The Dirt” tour that’s starts April 16th through June. Teamed with Dave East and a few accompanying artists will be taking to tour just in time of this release which is now available everywhere.
