Design| Luiz Solano Delivers A 1960’s Inspired Touch To A Sao Paulo Apartment

Renowned Brazilian architect Luiz Solano, displays his latest works on a São Paulo apartment that is nestled in the Araucária Building, built in the 1960s by Rino Levi.

Creating an open space aesthetic was the desired theme and Solano delivers by removing the divided walls and gives life to a Brutalists character that is perfect for the raw and exposed materials. The original design hosted three separate rooms which Luiz erases the initial masonry. The primary space is now home to the kitchen island, a raised planter and the building’s ventilation shaft. The exposed ceiling is an example of the raw materials adding to the decor. Additionally, the floors, painted a warm white, help the silver details in distributing more light around the open space.

Furniture and decor choices lean further into the natural with fluid textures provided by a large marble dining table and a circular rug featuring a lichen-like technicolor design.
