In Celebration of the newly released album “What Happen To The Streets?“, by Atlanta artists 21 Savage, the rapper has teamed up with art and graphic designer Slawn to take over Atlanta’s High Museum of Art. Slawn is responsible for the official album artwork that accompanied the music release this past Friday and to masterfully display the collaboration, the tandem hosted an art-base exhibition.
The outside of the High Museum of Art is an over-sized inflatable figure based on the artwork design from the project. Inside the museum featured 15 pieces by Slawn and Savage anchored by the art work and meet with additional designs that follow the theme. The collection is inspired by Kerry James Marshall’s 1980 work, “A Portrait of the Artist as a Shadow of His Former Self,” the painting figures a similarly shadowy, hatted figure defined by striking eyes and a gap-toothed smile, while emblazoned with Slawn’s cartoonish spray treatment and Savage’s iconic knife tattoo. A signature piece of this exhibition is the feature series that showcases the multiple artists who are featured on the album including Drake, Latto, G Herbo, Lil Baby, Jawan Harris, GloRilla, Metro Boomin and Young Nudy. Each artist is portrayed as a character similar to the 21 Savage character and seen with the renowned dagger placed at the center of their heads.
The series is released fresh off the tandem’s Art Basel rollout which showcased the 20 foot tall inflatable that was seen around Miami last week. This week the album What Happened to the Streets?, has finally been released and is made available for you on all streaming platforms.
