Tech & Design| The Porochista Piano Gets A Hypercar Touch-Up By Mohammad Limucci

Grand pianos historically showcased a level of lavish living and prestige but the detail in design has been trapped in a design time loop that has left the iconic instrument in an prehistoric place. This piece of music and decor consistently retreats to it’s rigid geometry and wooden framework that has become the staple design choice for such a pivotal piece. We can now thank designer Mohammad Limucci for shattering that ancient aesthetic as he has re-imagined the grand piano through the lens of hypercar engineering and biomorphic futurism.

Maintaining the 88-key’s grand pianos are accustomed to, the newly designed Porochista piano by Limucci swaps traditional veneers for a high-performance cocktail of glass, metal and matte black composites. The piano takes several notes from hypercar engineers like legendary Luigi Colani while showcasing touches like the “floating” rear section that mimics the active aerodynamics of a Pagani or Koenigsegg. Limucci defeats the geometric style for weightless and light-speed capable mass that brilliantly performs flawless technological sounds. Innovation does not stop at the design alone as there is a 20-inch mounted touchscreen that ascends the traditional capabilities of the classical grand. The digital hub provides seamless recording, playback, and animated notation, while a hidden, touch-activated compartment for sheet music keeps the minimalist lines clean.

This masterpiece has recently been recognized at the A’ Design Awards and pinpoints a change in music innovation and design.
