Celebrations for the Lunar New Year supporting the Year of the Fire Horse are popping up in subtle ways, but TAG Heuer has made a bold statement with their latest release of the TAG Heuer Carrera.
The Carrera Chronograph Year of the Fire Horse receives a potent Red & Champagne colored makeover while the body and design maintain a tame and elegant approach. Keeping the celebration notes subtle, TAG avoids the zodiac symbols and stamps and trade that in for a champagne-gold sunray-brushed dial in a warm ember gradient. While the celebratory touches are minimal, there is still representation of the Chinese zodiac celebration with the replacement of the number ‘7’ on the red date window for the Chinese character for horse (“马”).
For the mechanics on the Carrera, the timepiece houses a 39mm stainless steel case, which features the signature Glass box style, which pays homage to a design revival of an aesthetic popular in the 60’s and 70’s. Added features include the dial that is accented by 18K 5N rose gold-plated hands and indices that are paired with the polished and brushed seven-row beads-of-rice bracelet. The watch is powered by it’s in-house Calibre TH20-07, which flows through an automatic column-wheel chronograph movement which is showcased by the sapphire caseback featuring a printed motif of a galloping horse. This all produces a frequency of 28,800 vph and offers a robust 80-hour power reserve.
The Carrera Chronograph Year of the Fire Horse watch is limited to only 250-individually numbered pieces worldwide, which is priced at $7,850 USD and made available via selected TAG Heuer boutiques and online.
