Boston-based casual lifestyle design brand, ‘47 has teamed up with fashion curator Motofumi “POGGY” Kogi for a classic head-wear collaboration. The “JAPAN 9” collection of custom designed caps feature nine Japanese brands that are celebrated throughout the series.
Today, all nine hats are unveiled at the official pre-sale event taking place at an exclusive pop-up at Isetan Shinjuku. The “Japan 9” project is inspired by ’47’s baseball roots and the nine players that make up a team on the field. Positioning POGGY as the team manager, the collection features one cap design from each of the nine brands he selected as the future of Japanese fashion. The full design roster is crafted by the helping nine brands that include ANCELLM, beta post, KANEMASA PHIL., KHOKI, mister it., mukcyen, PROLETA RE ART, ssstein, and YOKE. Each brand infused the ‘47 baseball cap with its signature approach to materials, treatments, and tailoring techniques.
Each brand added their signature aesthetic to their collaborated cap while ’47 developed the products. For example, ANCELLM, who applied a specialized wash to horsehide leather for a perfectly lived-in look. Meanwhile, KANEMASA PHIL. relied on a proprietary cotton-nylon blend to deliver an elegant, supple sheen. Mukcyen showcased delicate fabrics and meticulous pattern matching, while PROLETA RE ART brought its signature hand-reconstructed vintage treatments to the table. Ultimately, the familiar baseball cap serves as a canvas, allowing wearers to experience the distinct craftsmanship of all nine labels.
The “JAPAN 9” pop-up runs from Wednesday, September 30, to Tuesday, October 6. The event takes place at the 1st Floor Promotion space in the Isetan Shinjuku Men’s Building. Select items will be available on the Mitsukoshi Isetan online store while a wider release drops mid-October on ‘47 online store.
