For SZA, individuality has always been an essential part of her creative identity. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has developed an extraordinary relationship with contemporary culture through several avenues. One of her most recent lanes on connection has been through her collaboration with VANS. Since their multi-year creative partnership in 2025, Vans and SZA are preparing to introduce the first official release from VANSZA.
October 22, 2026, VANSZA Drop 1 introduces new versions of the Knu Skool and Authentic. The release also includes an eclectic assortment of utility-inspired clothing. To celebrate the upcoming release, the collaborators have unveiled a campaign photographed by India Sleem, with additional product and landscape imagery captured by Yudo Kurita. Based in California’s expansive hillsides, the campaign introduces a visual world that feels deeply connected to SZA’s appreciation for nature, self-discovery, and creative freedom.
For VANSZA, SZA introduces a particularly interesting adjustment. The Knu Skool‘s traditional sneaker heel is removed entirely, transforming the laced-up silhouette into an open-backed mule. The second major footwear offering within Drop 1 is the VANSZA Authentic Kickdown. Yet another familiar silhouette transformed through an unconventional design perspective. For example, the Authentic receives a modification inspired directly by SZA’s personal habits. The artist has described a longstanding tendency to step on the backs of her sneakers. This choice effectively converting conventional footwear into casual slip-ons. The design does not ask the wearer to adapt to the shoe. Instead, the shoe adapts to the way someone naturally chooses to wear it.
Although the reimagined sneakers provide an immediate introduction to the collaboration, VANSZA’s apparel assortment offers an equally interesting perspective on SZA’s approach to personal style. The collection brings together oversized outerwear, relaxed denim, utilitarian details, and graphic elements inspired by the natural world. Among the collection’s most interesting pieces is the VANSZA Workwear Trompe L’Oeil Fleece Set. The collection also introduces the VANSZA Denim Hunting Jacket and Multi-Pocket Denim Pant. Both pieces reinterpret vintage utility clothing through washed denim, exaggerated proportions, contrast corduroy detailing, and substantial pocketing.
With a California-shot campaign, reimagined sneaker silhouettes, and an eclectic assortment of outdoor-inspired apparel, the Grammy-winning artist introduces a collection that celebrates personal expression without compromise. The VANSZA Drop 1 collection launches October 22, 2026, through Vans retail locations and the brand’s official website.
