Two powerhouses in design team together to deliver a very individualized collection of new footwear. The renown comfort-focused VANS joins forces with British fashion house Vivienne Westwood to develop a series utilizing signature silhouettes and hand designed embossed markings that resemble a hand-written letter traveling from California to London. Supporting the idea of individualism, this collection of sneakers and slip-on shoes captures patterns and prints that provide you with a journey of design.
Vans’ signature designs such as their Sk8-Hi, Sk8-Hi Platform, Slip-On, Style 53, Old Skool, and Authentic, all catch a fresh print makeover. Dubbed “Anglomania”, the range consists of six classic Vans silhouettes decorated with reinterpretations of archival Westwood prints and graphics. Details such as the Sk8-Hi makeover references each brand’s birthplace with embossed markings of a handwritten letter sent from Southern California to Vivienne Westwood’s London home. This silhouette is crafted from a natural vegetable dye tan leather and features printed postage stamp listings with the official launch date and is finished with a leather-bound outsole. The many other Van styles also experience similar recreations.
In addition to the Sk8-Hi, other designs also received a eye-grasping makeover. For instance, The Sk8-Hi Platform draws inspiration from Vivienne Westwood’s Pirate boot, showcasing key design details from the boot including a tan vegetable dye buckled strap, meanwhile The Slip-On showcases Vans’ signature checkerboard pattern, layered with the Westwood’s DESTROY graphic. To further the collection, they reintroduced the Style 53 as a loafer-style slip-on with a suede upper, black lugged outsole, and a Vivienne Westwood multicolored metal orb.
