West Sydney-based singer/songwriter Billy Maree surfaces with a transient treat for fans with a two track release dubbed “Somewhere (Slow)/ Tonight“. The Australasian songbird offers two outstanding vibes showcasing Maree’s strong yet soothing vocal skill-set and the pen hand of the modern R&B exemplar.
Angelic cadence meets sensible lyrics adorned with desire, allure and the hope that love brings to all who seek to hold on to it. The two Open Til 8 produced records are both set at a slow-grind tempo but provide two-side of Billy’s abilities while maintaining a continuous story-line. “Somewhere (Slow)” provides warm day breeze vibes provided by the uplifting piano key chords, flute instrumentation and easy-going 808 drum pattern. Maree speaks on being between ‘love and misery’ as her desires for love seem close but still at a distance from truly being obtained. Taking it “Slow” is the best suggestion for the complicated status surrounding her love interest. Meanwhile, “Tonight” seems more daring and holds a late-night mystery crafting a dark R&B energy that is simply enticing and grasping. The production presents dancing hi-hats and dark piano keys that float in the background. Maree is anything but shy in her lyrics while the seraphic singer’s poised pitch makes for a dreamy record.
