New York’s fashion and design powerhouse, The Brooklyn Circus, teams up with Maine’s premier aviator-glasses designer Randolph, for a special capsule collection. The limited series is a homage to the amazing history of the Tuskegee Airmen who infamously wore aviator glasses as if it was a part of the uniform.
The Tuskegee Airmen, a group of Black pilots from the US Air Force, also known as the “Red Tails,” who fought in World War II, are notable figures in both Black History and World History. Revitalizing this rich history, Randolph delivers a P-51 sunglasses, which are named after the P-51 Mustang fighter planes that the Red Tails flew. Offered in a “Smoke” colorway, these re-imagined renditions come equipped with features such as the military inspired colorway, along with Air Force’s wingtip logo and an optional sun clip lens.
Adding to the capsule, The Brooklyn Circus offers up a few clothing pieces such as a varsity jacket adorned in a chocolate brown wool and features leather pocket trims. Additionally, is a silk scarf adorned with a propeller from the P-51 Mustang and a star for each of the five Haitian pilots in the Tuskegee Airmen’s ranks.
“We continue our 100-year plan and journey of telling stories that need to be amplified,” says Brooklyn Circus founder Ouigi Theodore, who himself is of Haitian descent. “Randolph was the perfect partner for us to share an even deeper story of 5 Haitian Tuskegee airmen.”
