Art| Brent Estabrook Unveils New Series “Storytime” at Maddox Gallery

Inside Gstaad, Switzerland‘s renowned art studio dubbed Maddox Gallery, is the playful new solo exhibition from painter Brent Estabrook. Titled “Storytime”, Brent delivers a multi-piece project that simply eludes to the simplicity of happiness and joy. The colorful and vibrant paintings continue to showcase Estabrook’s plushie models in new shapes and forms, all telling a playful story.

July 21st, the gallery officially offered patrons a close up look at the gallery-takeover by the acrylic painter who sets to bring light hearted art to his fans and viewers. The month-long solo exhibit marks a significant evolution in Estabrook’s artistic journey as the works on show transcend the confines of realism to explore a world shaped solely by his inventive vision. Brent’s signature reversed facial features are maintained in the plushie focused works while new themes like unicorns and popular characters are also featured throughout. A popularized piece is Eastbrook’s rendition of Disney’s Mickey Mouse now dubbed “Spiffy”, which showcases Mickey with reversed features, is rendered for the series.

“My crazy stuffed animals series is entering a whole new era where I am dedicating myself to sketching the characters onto the canvas directly from my imagination, … I like challenging my viewers and collectors to see things from a different perspective—to find the joy and wonder in both nostalgia and something new entirely.”

Many signature inspirations like Alice in Wonderland, Disney and other animated figures throughout time influenced Brent and are visible throughout the collection. Disney’s original Alice in Wonderland movie inspired rabbit hole, which transforms the artist’s signature quilt motif into a mind-bending, visually engaging vortex of colors. This added with the newly presented Spiffy character produce a nostalgic sense with new-age touches making the pieces recognizable yet surreal.
