Breakout indie pop artist Kevian Kraemer forges ahead with the premiere of his latest single, “down under”. The up-beat and energized single is produced by Auckland, NZ’s Harry Charles (Tate McRae, Karol G x Tiësto, King Princess, Reneé Rapp) and co-written with London-based songwriter Charlie Oriain. The deeply impassioned track is joined by an official music video.
The video showcases a sunny-day aesthetic that is shared in the first few chords that are played as the song is playful and up-tempo. The lyrics share a more passion-based and sentimental tone but the entire energy is that of fresh air which Kevian appears to be over at Atlantic Records.
I wrote this about a girl who I’m a little bit trauma-bonded to in a time where we were both super into each other, … This was in September 2024 and the whole catalyst of the fallout and tension was that she was taking a trip to Australia and wouldn’t be back until July 2025, hence the name ‘down under,’ which is kind of great because the lyrics ‘cause i hate blowing smoke, and you’re still going under’ can be interpreted in so many interesting ways. The whole point of the song is that I wanted her to find someone there so I could just stop being upset about the whole situation and move on.
