As innovation is a thriving topic globally these past few weeks, GM joins the conversation with a newly presented EV concept car that is an engineering phenom as well as design. Simply named the Chevrolet Corvette concept car, the vehicle is one of three prototypes expected to be revealed this year.
GM making great use of the Corvette name, the technological design powerhouse presents one of their teams latest projects. The brainstorming began in the newly opened UK studio, which promotes the brand’s European support as they plan o open a Cadillac EV company there. Led by Julian Thomson, the studio takes over 24,584-square-foot at the Royal Leamington Spa studio and employs over 30 designers.
Our advanced design team’s mandate extends well beyond creating production vehicles. While they collaborate within our global design network on production and concept vehicle programs, these teams are primarily tasked with imagining what mobility could look like five, 10, and even 20 years into the future and driving innovation for GM.
Michael Simcoe, senior VP of global design
As for the Corvette EV concept, the design team made sure to maintain the Corvette renowned aesthetics while adorning the vehicle in futuristic detailing. With the exterior, the upper half captures the classic design elements with a futuristic twist, while the lower half focuses on functional technical design that include EV battery technology embedded into the structure and aerodynamics elements. Race-car influenced, the EV car features on-road efficiency and on-track performance, along a sculpted underbody for lowered ride height.
