Michigan’s own, WALDO (formally Waldo The Don) returns to the scene with his highly anticipated album ‘Mahogany’ which is lightly featured and heavily produced by Sango & J Robb. This project was teased since the beginning of the year with the single release of “I Know” which was accompanied by a visual (above). With brief features and show performances since this single, WALDO has had his fans on the edge of their seats all year and we finally have the AGO Music stamped, 11-track project.
Since 2012, AGO Music has developed a signature sound that is their own and WALDO has been a leading voice in the seven artists collective. Since the humble beginnings of being the faces of Soundcloud to becoming a fan favorite at early Soulection shows, Waldo has walked a unique path as an independent artist. His vivid verbal point of view brilliantly recorded over Sango beats has been the science to their secret recipe. WALDO continues his musical journey with this life-updating, lyrically lavish and ear-grasping project.
Within this 29-minute project, 11 tracks produced by either Sango or J.Robb deliver a series of vibes showcasing the versatile style WALDO possesses. From the sound alone, you can tell Waldo maintained a mood of calmness while verbalizing a world of chaos. Songs like “Growth” and “On My Heart” (which features Earlly Mac) are a chance to catch a retrospective side of the Grand Rapids, Michigan raised kid. The more charismatic tracks such as “The Hard Way“, “All of It” and “I Know” are fueled by samples, catchy hooks matched with playful adlibs and witty wordplay. WALDO, who is known for being a metaphorical magician with his punchlines and bars, and on this project, he delivers just that on tracks like “Got It Now“, “Underneath It All”, and “Midnight Klub” featuring Vee The Rula. A new sighting of a more emotionally intelligent WALDO is on display as WALDO gives a more vulnerable take on love and relationships on “Have You Seen Her” featuring HUNTCHINO and “I Need More“, which both pushed the boundaries of topics and entered a new space for listeners of WALDO.
Properly track-listed, Mahogany is a sonically satisfying listen that repels any need to skip but instead is engineered to flow from one song to the next. Yet again, WALDO provides his fans with signature sounds, futuristic flows and elevated energy via an AGO Music supported project.
